about
Rich, deep, percussive soulful folk album from master Togolese singer, Akofa Akoussah.
The album moves through uptempo afro-folk-funk on ‘Tango’ to deep ballads of ‘Ramer Sans Rame’ and ‘I Tcho Tchass’ and lighter moments on ‘G Blem Di’ and ‘Mitso Aseye’. Akofas exceptional songs and soaring vocals are decorated with percussion, guitar lines, subtle backing vocals and horns to create a unique, rich sonic.
The album was recorded for release by French label Sonafric in 1976. Produced by Gérard Akueson; founder & owner of African record label, ‘Akue’, based in Paris.
As supported by Gilles Peterson, Hunnee, Antal Rush Hour and many more.
Official Mr Bongo reissue. Licensed from Sonafric/MRC.
Like so many others, this came like a bolt out of the blue and, even though it's well before payday, I had to have this astonishing album on vinyl to prove it exists. The feel of the tunes makes me feel like the Impressions do, Curtis Mayfield, the big spaces and instinctive horns and stuff drifting in and out. Great grooves and I can see lots of ghosts nodding along to this with big smiles on their faces. At last! Anthony Cottrell
Psychedelic folk-rock, hazy synthesized funk, and smoky French vocals are just a few of the elements in Project Gemini's latest record. Bandcamp New & Notable Apr 6, 2024
